A seven part micro-learning series laying out the basics of yoga and how to start practicing.

  • Part 1: What Is Yoga and Why Should You Practice It?

    Part One gives a short definition of yoga and lists some benefits of practicing yoga in general and online.

    Performance Objective: From memory, the learner will be able to state one benefit of yoga and a simple definition of what yoga is.

  • Part 2: What Are the Most Common Ways to Practice Yoga?

    Part Two explains the three most common ways people typically practice yoga and when you might want to practice each one.

    Performance Objective: By the end of the lesson the learner will be able to distinguish between asana (movement), pranayama (breathing practice), and meditation practices.

  • Part 3: How Can Yoga Affect Your Energy?

    Part Three explains how we can use the practices of yoga to regulate how we feel.

    Performance Objective: By the end of the lesson, the learner will recognize the three energetic effects yoga practices can have on the nervous system.

  • Part 4: What Are Five Common Styles of Yoga?

    Part Four describes the five most common styles of yoga and shows visual examples of poses from those styles.

    Performance Objective: By the end of the lesson the learner will be able to discriminate between five of the most popular styles of yoga - hatha, vinyasa, yin, restorative, and yoga therapy.

  • Part 5: How Do You Choose the Right Level?

    Part Five lists and describes the four main levels of yoga and who should practice them.

    Performance Objective: By the end of the lesson the learner will be able to distinguish between the levels of movement practice - Beginners, Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3.

  • Part 6: What Do You Need to Begin A Yoga Practice?

    Part Six goes into the actual practice of yoga. It describes the three basic variables necessary to get ready to practice.

    Performance Objective: By the end of the lesson the learner will be able to set up a suitable practice space and start a yoga practice that is aligned with the resources available to them and the suggestions in the module.

  • Part 7: What Poses Can You Take When You Need to Pause?

    Part Seven lists three neutral poses a practitioner can take at any time during a practice when they want to pause. Visual examples are included.

    Performance Objective: By the end of the lesson the learner will be able to take the shape of a mountain pose, easy pose or corpse pose when they want to rest or pause during practice.
